His
Speech About his Love for Baseball
My own memories of baseball, first
memories, come from my dad taking me to
games, and they are cherished memories. I
can tell my colleagues--I hope I am not
violating her privacy--when my youngest
child was 4 days old, in March, I held her
up to a TV set and said, `Sweetheart, this
is baseball, and you're going to love
it...

Dedicated
and
Determined:
Deena Drossin is representing the US in
Sydney
If one were to pick two words to describe
Deena Drossin, one of America's most
promising distance runners, they would be
without a doubt dedicated and determined.
How fitting that both words start with the
letter "D." It is Drossin's determination
to succeed and dedication to the sport
that has carried her to the professional
ranks of cross country and track &
field [and the 2000
Olympics]...

Yom
Kippur and Sandy
Koufax
They'll
Always Go Together
On October 6, 1965, Sandy Koufax, the
overpowering lefty for the Los Angeles
Dodgers, did not pitch in the first game
of the World Series against the Minnesota
Twins because game day fell on Yom
Kippur.
My
father was not a baseball fan then. Our
family had emigrated to the United States
less than six years before...

A
New Documentary Retells the 1972 Munich
Massacre and Reveals the Previously Untold
Story of What Happened
The chain of events that led to the
death of the Israeli Olympic athletes, and
the lack of an adequate response to their
capture, boggle the mind. As the
documentary conveys, the West German
government failed to protect the Israelis
and utterly botched any plans to save
them...
Gold
Medal Lessons For
Life
by
Dr. Mitch Smith
Taking note of athletes who strive to
reach their best, we can find a message
for each of us. The men and women who took
their place on the Olympic winners'podium
made their way there because of certain
values, strategies and practices which I
believe can help all of us to make life
fuller, more joyful and more
meaningful...
A
Jewish Baseball Hero Who Gave Hope and
Inspiration to
Jews
Across the
Nation:
Review
of The Life and Times of Hank Greenberg
The film creates a portrait of a man and
of a time. Greenberg grew up in an
Orthodox household in the Bronx, and his
mother, the film points out, became the
Queen of the City due to her famous and
talented son. Kempner weaves in shots of
what the Bronx looked like in those days,
with push carts on the streets, enhancing
our sense of the differences between then
and now...
